Poster Showcase

I have made posters for educational use and for taking to international science conferences. In particular - the "Physics of Flight" poster series has been highly popular with students and science teachers.

Learning to Fly

The first three posters shown above form "The Physics of Flight" poster series. These posters have been on display at the In-Tech Science Museum in Winchester, used for teaching of Aeronautics and Engineering students and are currently on display in the main foyer of the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Southampton.

Thanks to the Cartographic Unit for helping with the proofing and printing of these posters, which are now in demand from Physics, Aeronautics and Engineering and are frequently passed around between these departments.

Conference Posters

The "Quantum Control" poster has been taken to international conferences to display the research work that the group is involved in.

Comments have been made about its soft colour scheme, which is easy on the eye, and the many subtle effects such as shadow highlights for emphasis and background graphic elements that the conscious mind doesn't necessarily notice but which the subconscious does see.

From A4 to A0

A common misconception is that as posters are large, so a huge amount of information can be crammed onto them. This leads to confusing, busy and messy posters - this approach does not work.

The larger the poster, the less information can fit on, as the poster needs to be legible from a distance to attract people to it. For example, the text content of each of the "Physics of Flight" posters would fit onto a sheet of A5 paper, however, the text is large and clear as are the photographs and diagrams.

This is what has made these posters so popular for both educators and students.

Posterize Your Stuff

The hardest step is to catch the eye of the viewer from afar, I design posters to have the maximum impact and appeal from a distance so that once the bait is hooked, the reader is drawn in.
