Light Express is the flagship Schools Outreach activity of the University of Southampton, School of Physics an Astronomy. It is the only travelling laser light show and photonics lecture that visits schools across the South of England for free.
It is an unmissable opportunity for pupils ranging from Year 9 to GCSE/A-Level to see a professional laser light show and spectacular laser demonstrations that reinforce key concepts in the Physics National Curriculum.
The Light Express was invited to give a 30 minute presentation at ETOP 2005 (International Conference on Education and Training in Optics and Photonics) in October 2005. The paper we submitted gave an in-depth view of the Light Express as it is written by the Coordinator and several chief laserists, including myself.
If you would like to read about what goes on behind the scenes of the Light Express, why it exists and what it means to both school pupils who see the laser shows, and for the PhD students who run it, please download and read the paper here.
